Destinations - Barcelona
A lovely resort town, Barcelona has benefited from the exposure of hosting the 2002 Olympic Games. The good news is, Barcelona has lost none of its original charm.
One of the most majestic churches in the world can be found in Barcelona. Called the La Sagrada Familia, it was a lifetime labour of love by Antoni Gaudi, who spent 40 years of his life working on it. One of the most fascinating aspect of this Roman Catholic church is the fact that after so many years (since 1882), the Church is still under construction!
Of course, the other famous sites include the fortress known as the Castell de Montjuic, the 18th-century castle that stands on top of Montjuic hill. The original structure was built in 1640 to withstand the invading forces of Felipe IV.
And you really have to visit Pargue Guell Waterfront. It is a beautiful stretch that had a face-lift for the Olympic Games and is now even more beautiful than ever. This is also where you will find the Aquarium, the impressive 260-foot Plexiglas tunnel where you can come face to face with moray eels and tiger sharks.
There are many other places of interest in Barcelona like the La Casa Mila, Costa Del Garraf, and of course, you must visit the beaches at Barceloneta, Marbella, Nova Marbella and Bogatell.
Barcelona is a famous city and it is wise to check up well in advance for flights, air tickets, hotels for availability and flight. One good site for hotel review and comparison is HotelCombined.
